Getting legally married in the Dominican Republic is a straightforward process, and at Island Weddings Dominican Republic, we’re here to assist you every step of the way. With our expertise and local connections, we make sure everything is handled smoothly, so you can focus on celebrating your love. Here’s what you need to know about the requirements for legal weddings in the Dominican Republic:

What are the Requirements for Legal Weddings in the Dominican Republic?

1. Valid Passports: Both the bride and groom must have a valid passport with at least six months of validity left before the wedding date.
2. Birth Certificates: You’ll need to provide original birth certificates for both parties.
3. Single Status Affidavit: This document confirms that both of you are legally free to marry.
4. Divorce Decree / Death Certificate (if applicable): If either party has been previously married, an official divorce decree is required. If either party´s previous spouse has been diseased, a death certificate is required.

Documents such as birth certificates, single status affidavits, death certificates and divorce decrees must be legalized and authenticated in your home country, typically through the Dominican Consulate or Apostille.

All documents must be translated into Spanish by a certified translator.

Additional fees apply for the officiating judge, especially for weddings outside the judge’s usual office hours.
